Find Your Muse - Every Monday Night in July - The Evening Muse

'Find Your Muse' Open Mic - The Rules of Engagement

- Signups begin at 7:00 -- we expect it might get busy, so we recommend showing up early. We cannot accept phoned in sign-ups at this time... sorry.

- There will be a $3 cover for performers and spectators. (We wish it could be free folks, but there are people working hard to put this on for you and we want to properly thank them for their efforts!)

- Music starts at 7:45 as our host Eric-Scott Guthrie gets things started. First open mic performance will start at 8:00.

- Each artist will get two songs or approximately ten minutes to play. Original Songs are strongly encouraged, but not required. Please be considerate of other artists and watch your time... no 5 song, 20 minute medley please! :-)

- Featured performer Lowry will play a 30 minute set at 10:00, any performers who have not played by this time will be slotted after the feature performer.

- If there are younger people in the crowd who might have to deal with curfews, they may be moved up to an earlier slot in the evening. We were all kids once so we know it can suck sometimes, but we want to give them a chance to perform as well.

- If you have CD's or merchendise to sell, understand that we don't have much space for displaying them. Feel free to try to sell your products, but keep your inventory in your car, please!

- HAVE FUN!

Lowry

LowryThe moment you begin to think you understand Lowry, you're wrong. The mild-mannered psychedelic folkie of the East Village scene is on a path to utterly demolish the conservative notion of the indie songwriter.

The Lowry sound ranges from gratifyingly adventurous alt-country epics to psychedelically-irresistible pop hits. The Lowry spectrum seems daunting to describe, but to see Lowry on stage, or to hear Awful Joy is to witness an artist with decidedly singular mastery of his trade. The songs ebb and flow with rare consistency and verve, simultaneously stinging the nerve ends of indie rock, anti-folk, tweak-pop and Americana.

"Lowry's ostensibly part of the neo-folk revival over-running the East Village, but this disc is all over the rock time line, from Ziggy-era Bowie to Yoshimi-Lips, with twangy intervals, chamber pop stops and even a prog-rock touch or two along the journey. He is not to be missed."
