The Evening Muse opened our doors in April of 2001. Thanks to the music-lovin' citizens of Charlotte and venturous visitors to our fair city, the Muse has had the opportunity to present literally thousands of original independent music acts for nearly a decade.

From our own Carolinas music scene to performers from all corners of the globe, an amazing array of artists have graced our stage: from acoustic music to full electric bands; alternative, americana, blues, country, folk, hip-hop, jazz, pop, reggae, rock, r&b - and where it all begins, with the songwriter.

"The Evening Muse, the perfect setting for an intimate folk scene, is usually the quietest of Charlotte's rooms. Listeners actually come to hear music and that music is usually good. While home to local artists like The Near Misses and Poprocket, the Muse also welcomes cutting-edge songwriters like Martha Wainwright, sister of Rufus Wainwright, and witty British folkie Martin Stephenson." - Courtney Devores, Charlotte.com

The Muse brings acoustic music and much more to Charlotte in a great-sounding room.

Excellent original artwork on the walls, a great selection of beer and wine,
and music from some of the finest local, regional and national talent.

The Muse is located in the NoDa Arts District in Historic North Charlotte, a great neighborhood with a diverse mix of galleries, shops, restaurants and homes.

While we are a non-smoking venue,
smoking is permitted outdoors in front of and alongside the building.

All concerts and events are open to all ages unless otherwise specified.

Charlotte Magazine's Best of the Best Awards: Best Live-Music Venue: The Evening Muse
"The atmosphere is bohemian funk, and the bar offers snacks and drinks, but the people gathered around small tables at The Evening Muse are not there for the ambience or the food. They come for the music. One of the few true listening rooms in the area, The Evening Muse presents music four nights a week—sometimes more—and guarantees musicians and their audiences a place free of chatter and rattling dishes. The mostly singer/songwriter fare is shaken up by the occasional rock band, like Chapel Hill’s Spencer/Acuff and Charlotte’s own Latin rockers, La Rua."

The Evening Muse

"This place is so nice it almost doesn't matter if there's music - it's just nice to be there. Luckily, Lea Pritchard books a wide-range of talent with an emphasis on folk, non-Music Row country and rock. Crowds are almost always quiet and respectful of the artists -- just another reason you see their names coming through Charlotte as often as they can." - CL, 2004

The Muse was voted "Best Acoustic Venue" & "Best Club to Hear Local Music"
in the 2001-2003 Creative Loafing "Best of Charlotte" Awards!

The Muse is a winner - Best of Charlotte Awards!!

Best Place to Hear Local Music - "The sound's the thing here. Owner/soundman Joe Kuhlmann plays and records music, so he knows what a musician (and a seasoned concertgoer) wants to hear. Not the largest place in the world, but it's guaranteed you'll never hear one of those hellhound-like screeches of monitor feedback at this place." - Creative Loafing

Best Acoustic Music Club - Critics' & Readers' Pick!
