Charlotte's Incestuous Music Scene This e-mail came in response to Mr. Pink's article A Musical Opinion. It has been edited to remove those little > and >> thingies. -----Original Message----- This is not criticism. This is just another story... ...and maybe I'm reading an old article, but... If anything, the music scene in Charlotte is incestuous! O.k....6 degrees of Benji Hughes... Benji Hughes: Muscadine, The Goldenrods, and part-time Flyweb-er... Cody Davis: Flyweb, plays w/the Houston Brothers, and also works w/Groups like Baleen... ...then Steve McMillan, another talented bassist, who works w/the likes of Baleen as well as the x-periment and then there's Derrick Hines of the x-periment who just does his crazy shits too! For real! ...then, there's those crazy boys from Lodestar...Scott and Ashley...who are now with Ginger Briscoe who used to kind of be Pescado Loco... ...I don't know who you are, the pseudonym makes it difficult...but, if you don't already, come down to the Penguin sometime and meet a bunch of incestuous local music supporters...am I proud? Of course! You bet! You also have groups who help each other out at shows, too... I've seen all of these groups on the same bill at some point (not ALL on ONE bill...you know what I mean!) Babyshaker ...what's even COOLER is a lot of these groups have shared members before! Mind you, this is more or less the "indie rock" scene. You may have been referring to the hippie band or rap metal scene or boy band scene (which this city sorely lacks!!! I'm working on it, o.k.? :^) ) Didn't mean to rant too fervantly.
